The Journey

And so complete silence filled the air between the two occupants
as they begin their journey early in the morning
the road is clear
the sun nowhere to be seen
rain falling from the sky
Somehow realizing God is feeling their sorrow as well this morning
The only conversation held is by the automated response of direction
the GPS being their only guide
because both are lost in their minds
tears fall down her face
tears fall down his face
both looking straight ahead on the road
both knowing if they look at each other
they won’t be able to contain the sobs that are held captive inside
they arrive at a stop within the journey
the end of her journey
the first stop in his
they look at each other
and it’s as if floods make rivers down each of their faces
they try to speak
and even though sounds come out
but no words are formed
they know exactly what is said
the separation is coming
and they both try to stand strong
but collapse into each other
into a tremendous hug
she turns around
as she sees the train heading towards her
the train she’s been praying would never come
the train she delayed for 3 weeks
she begins to walk away
she wants to look back
to see if he’ll look back too
but she doesn’t
it’ll be too much to bear
to see his crying eyes once again
The separation has come
cutting into the air
The journey has began
the journey of longsuffering
the journey of love
the journey of compassion
May the Lord keep them both in His hands
